One of the seminars at the KBBA Conference will be:

Cook Smart -- Serve with Flair!
Presented by Larry Stevens (Dickey House Bed & Breakfast, Marshfield, MO)

With the turndown in the economy, many of us have fewer guests than we are accustomed to hosting, and some inns are just not as busy as others. This workshop offers tips on how to cook for fewer guests with a little flair, maintain quality, save dollars at the market and still serve a great breakfast.
How do you purchase, store and cook for only 2 or 4 guests?
What staples should you keep on hand?
What are the secrets of storing and keeping staples fresher longer?
How can you keep supplies on hand if you only occasionally host guests?
By special request, I will also discuss how to design a "signature" dish for your inn. You may want to have more than one!

Come join in the fun! I look forward to seeing you all at the conference and the workshop!

Ready for Christmas!

After several days of decorating we are finally done. Bob did a great job on the outside.

The main foyer. The tree greets you as you enter the Prairie Queen.

Travel up the stairs to visit our individually decorated guest rooms. Which one are you staying in?

The Carousel Room. Complete with private porch, wrap around shower, large tub.

The International Room. Sunken tub, very romantic. Private porch on this room also.

The Kansas Room. Private bath, wonderful view of back gardens.

In the morning you come down to enjoy breakfast here. Bob still has to put the trains around the tree but is waiting for our Granddaughter to help him next week.

We'd love to have you come stay. I'm thinking of trying Gingerbread pancakes for the season. Can't wait to meet you or visit with old friends. Make your reservations now. (Still have rooms for New Year's Eve)

Ready for Fall?

Fall is here. The leaves are hinting at the colors to come in the next few weeks. The Dogwood trees are already changing. Soon the Maples will follow suit. The Oaks take a little longer. Even the White Pines in the back yard will have a hint of orange to them as the older needles get ready to fall. We use them as mulch around the back gardens.

The weather is wonderful. The private porches off the Carousel and the International rooms are perfect places to relax and unwind.

The mums are getting ready to bloom and the flower gardens have their fall looks. Fewer flowers but still interesting color.

Our Sundial is here!

Michael Eravi and his wife Janet brought our sundial up from his shop in Lawrence last night. He and Bob installed it in one of our flower gardens. Only needed to remove a few flowers.

Michael designed and made the sundial to reflect several of the aspects of our beautiful Classic Revial B&B.

Please visit his web site: http://www.craftymichael.com/ to see his sundials and other items that he makes. If you've always wanted a sundial you need to contact him and he will work with you to come up with a design that fits you and your property.

First City Festival - Dancin' in the Streets

If you haven't already planned your weekend you need to head out to Leavenworth and take part in our "First City Festival - Dancin' in the Streets" For schedule of events: http://www.leavenworthmainstreet.org/festivalActivies/

Things kick off Thursday night with a Special Music event at Haymarket Square. Metro Big Band will start things off in style playing from 6-8pm. For more information on them please visit: http://www.metrobigband.org/ Bring a lawn chair and come and enjoy. I've heard great things about them.

Friday night is full of things to do. At 5:30pm there will be a ribbon cutting and community celebration for the completion of the Delaware Streetscape Project. It will be held at the intersection of 5th street and Delaware in the Downtown area. Following there will be a Street Dance featuring 50's and 60's music.

At 6:00pm Jazz at Haymarket Square will start for those wishing to enjoy and evening of Jazz. At 6:00pm - Chris Burnett Quartet. At 7:00pm - Toni Gates Ensemble. 8:00pm - Roger Wilder Quintet.

On the Main Stage at Cherokee & Esplanade you will find more music. County Road 5 will play from 6:30-8:00pm. Hole in the Wall Gang from 8:30-11:00pm.

And between all these you will find vendors and other booths to enjoy.

Saturday starts off a 5K River Run, a Pancake Breakfast (if your not staying at the Prairie Queen), Farmers Market, Flea Market, Art Show and the dedication of the newly completed Haymarket Square Pavilion and the Three Mile Creek Trail. Ceremony begins at 11:00am. There will be more music throughout the day at all the venues: Haymarket Square and the Main Stage. Food, fun, and entertainment for the whole family.

We hope to see you there. Bob and I will be either at the B&B or working one of the activities for Main Street. If you can't come here pick something around Kansas and get out and enjoy.
